In Week #6, we will really understand muscle "power"
Updated October 2nd, 2020
Make a muscle! Your muscles are miraculous, marvelous, and meaningful inventions of a brilliant Creator. Muscles attach to your bones by way of tendons, and enable your bones to move with tremendous grace, skill, and power, at the various joints of your skeleton. For Weeks #6 and #7 we will explore Lesson 3 - The Muscular System. Summary of Week #5
During Week #5, the young scientists were able to label the various bones of Mr. Thrifty. Fortunately, he enjoyed all the attention so he was well behaved! Ladies, can you remember the placement of the following bones?
We also started an experiment with chicken arms (wings) and vinegar. When you return to class on Monday we're going to examine how the bones were impacted by water and vinegar. I suspect the vinegar - being a weak acid - would dissolve the calcium salts contained in bones, responsible for making them rigid. How do you think this will impact the properties of these bones? Don't forget to bring your jars of bones to class this week so we can see and record how they were affected. Big time thanks to Harper's mom for bringing in the delicious baked chicken wings! What to expect in Week #6
This week we are starting Lesson 3 - The Muscular System. We will perform three experiments as follows:
Mom's: I will also print out the laboratory protocols for the ladies. Before class on Monday, October 5th, please complete the following:
